REPORT: Georgia Football Top Player Remains Atop Newest Heisman Trophy Odds

Georgia football program tracker: The player and staff moves for 2023

Despite just one loss last season, the Georgia football program missed out on the College Football Playoff for the first time in three seasons. A loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the SEC Championship forced the CFP committee’s hand, omitting the Bulldogs from the four-team playoff field by one spot. Kirby Smart and Georgia football will try to return to the postseason next season, with the CFP expanding to 12 teams. Las Vegas believes strongly in their chances, with returning quarterback Carson Beck holding the best odds to win next season’s Heisman Trophy per FanDuel Sportsbook’s recently released pre-spring odds.

Beck remains tied in the top spot in the most recently released odds to win the Heisman Trophy Award with Texas Longhorns gunslinger Quinn Ewers. The Heisman hopeful announced his decision to return to Texas next season after throwing for 3,479 yards and 22 touchdowns. The Longhorns will play in the SEC next fall.

Quarterback Carson Beck will return to Georgia football in 2024 for his fifth season with the program. He spent the 2021 to 2023 seasons playing behind two-time College Football Playoff champion Stetson Bennett. Their longtime signal-caller left after the 2022 title, opening the door for Beck to take over. In his first season, the six-foot-four, 215-pound gunslinger threw for 3,941 yards, the second most in franchise history. He also completed 72.4% of his passes, finishing fourth in the country regarding that metric. Per 247Sports, Beck posted 11 straight games with 250 passing yards, the same amount Bennett did during his record-setting year in 2022. He finished with 24 touchdowns against six picks.

Beck played well in the SEC Championship despite losing to the Alabama Crimson Tide, throwing for 243 yards with no scores or interceptions. He completed 72% of his passes. Meanwhile, he went 13 of 18 for 203 yards and two touchdowns with no picks in his team’s beatdown of the Florida State Seminoles in the Orange Bowl.

Georgia Football: Eyeing a CFP return in 2024

After 40 years without a national title, the Georgia Bulldogs broke through in 2021, going 14-1 and winning the College Football Playoff Championship over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Georgia pulled the repeat in 2022, posting a perfect 15-0 record while demolishing the TCU Horned Frogs in the title game. Last season saw the Bulldogs do precisely what they did in 2021, going undefeated before falling to Alabama in the SEC Championship. However, unlike the previous time, the CFP committee did not allow the Georgia football program to redeem themselves and earn a three-peat.
