Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly among the clubs battling to sign Wouter Burger from Stoke City.

Burger was a shining star for the Potters throughout their rather forgettable 2023–24 campaign, regularly making an impression with his midfield performances. His performance seems to have caught the interest of several clubs, including Sheffield United.

The Blades are one of four teams vying for Burger’s signature, according to TEAMtalk. Spurs are rumored to be interested as well, and an offer of £12 million is reportedly possible to unseat Burger from the Potters.

After losing badly in the Premier League and going out of business, Sheffield United has to be rebuilt. Five senior players have already been revealed to be leaving the Blades, as manager Chris Wilder has made it clear he intends to be brutal in his remaking.

After ten years of service, Chris Basham is looking for greener pastures, and Wes Foderingham, George Baldock, Max Lowe, and Oliver Norwood are also moving out of Bramall Lane.

Burger, who is only 23 years old, has a tonne of experience; last season, he made 39 league appearances for Stoke. In addition, he has earned youth caps for the Netherlands and played senior football for teams like Feyenoord and Basel.
