Breaking: Barnsley Close in on signing extremely gifted defender wanted by top PL clubs

Josh Edwards Celebrates 150 Appearances | Dunfermline Athletic Football Club -

Josh Edwards of Dunfermline has been the focus of a lot of transfer rumors, with Charlton Athletic, Bristol Rovers, Blackpool, and Barnsley all vying for the defender’s signature.

The Courier’s Iain Collin claims that Charlton Athletic made the first move and that The Pars, who just extended his contract by a further 12 months, rejected a six-figure bid.

The race to sign the extremely gifted defender is on, with the other three League One clubs expressing interest as well.

Josh Edwards transfer latest

According to The Courier, since January, when Barnsley made what was thought to be an offer comparable to Charlton’s, interest has been high.

With just one year remaining on his contract, Dunfermline is preparing for more proposals from different teams after that one was also turned down. However, their negotiating position is not very strong.

James McPake’s team, however, is eager to sell him since they cannot afford to let him go for free in 2025, as the Daily Record revealed in their live blog on May 23.

In addition, with the transfer window closing in three weeks, an early trade would benefit Rovers, Charlton, and Blackpool, who are all eager to complete the transaction as soon as possible.

Given that Barnsley signed Josh Earl in January to fill that role, they will probably shift their focus elsewhere in the interim.

Josh Edwards: The narrative thus far

Edwards joined with Airdrieonians, his first professional football team, after initially being a prospect for Kilmarnock.

The young player created a lot of impressions in his 39 games at the club, so it came as no surprise when he moved up to play for Dunfermline Athletic in the Scottish Championship.

The 23-year-old defender has not looked back since joining East End Park, and he has made over 180 appearances for the team since 2019, solidifying his place in their lineup. The defender has added 10 goals to his career total and given his team 24 assists during that time.

The recognition and honors he has been bestowed with have served to highlight his progress. He has been selected for the Scottish Championship Team of the Year the last two years, and this season he was named his club’s Management Player of the Year.

His time at Dunfermline has been successful, and he has amply rewarded the Dunfermline supporters, wherever he ends up.
